Dr.L.G.Meera is an Indian classical dancer, choreographer and founder of Chitranaatya. She is a multifaceted personality. Highly qualified with her B.Sc., M.A., Ph.D., and PDRF., she was trained for more than 30 years by well known India’s foremost Bharatanatyam dancers. Born on Jan 4th 1972 at Kodagu, she is the daughter of Sri L.G. Gururaja Rao and Late Smt. U.K.Chitravathi. Her mother was the main driving force who encouraged her to leran music and dance. She started her training at the age of nine and her parents inculcated the values of hardwork, social responsibility in her. She received the university gold medal and distinction for her excellence in studies. Dr.Meera was talented but economically poor students in the colleges. Her experience inspired her to conceive the idea of Chitranaatya with helping weaker sections of the society.
Dr.L.G.Meera introduced on 12th May 1989 by her guru Smt. Usha Datar, performed her arangetram, which is the official debut, at Ravindra Kalakshetra, Bangalore to a packed audience of connoisseurs and dignitaries who came to see the new star of Indian dance. With her arangetram she was launched to the world to perform and promote the ancient traditional dance Bharata Natyam and to carry her message all over the world.
Apart from being a beautiful dancer, she is a reputed writer who writes poems, short stories dramas critical essays etc. She has specialized in the field of feminist literary criticism. Dr.L.G.Meera has bagged second rank in Vidwat examination in Bharathanaatyam and has completed senior level examination in Karnatic music. She has more than 13 years of experience of teaching undergraduate students in Government colleges of Karnataka.
